Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Build - Daystar 3/4" Leveling Kit π
After installing the Poison Spyder - Brawler Mid and Warn Zeon 10s the handling was noticeably "off". The rear felt non-planted and squirrely. Unfortunately I cannot install any significant lift on my Rubicon due to my low clearance garage door. Ugh.
For now I have opted to install the 4wd Parts - Daystar 3/4" Leveling Kit KJ09139BK
While there is some serious components involved here, the effort was quite minimal. I believe I had this completed in approximately 30 to 40 minutes.
Lug Wrench
18mm Socket Wrench
18mm Box End Wrench
Floor jack (for frame)
2 x Jack Stands
Park somewhere where the Jeep won't move
Slightly loosen the wheel lugs a bit on the driver's side wheel
Jack up the Jeep by the frame behind the front wheel where the trailing arm mounts to the frame
Once the wheel is off the ground, continue removing the lugs and remove the wheel
Place a jack stand under the axle and lower the frame jack until the load on the shock and the sway bar end is neutral
Remove the 18mm bolts from the shock lower and the sway bar end lower
Raise the frame jack until the spring is free and you can remove the jack stands. (leave the jack stands under the axle and trailing arm - but not touching)
Remove the spring
Install the spacer with the cone basically upside-down (it will match the existing top mount)
Re-install the spring
Raise the jack-stands to support the axle and trailing arm
Lower the frame jack until you can put bolts through the eyelets of the lower shock and sway bar end
Pro-tip(s):
- You will need to adjust the load on the front axle to remove the lower shock mount bolt and the sway-bar end bolt. It might make more sense to remove them before you jack up the Jeep
- When removing and installing the springs, you may find it easier to remove either in-front of the axle... or behind. Also, I found that twisting the spring while installing helped get it situated
Looks much worse than it actually was.
This shot was taken after the driver-side spacer was installed.
Before and After shot... not exactly well staged.
I had *just enough* room to lift my Jeep in the garage. Ugh.
